Giovanni Fanizza has been appointed to the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House for the 2025–2027 seasons, working in collaboration with the Royal Ballet company. In 2025, he will be a Conducting Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival. In 2024, he joined the Gstaad Conducting Academy, working with Johannes Schlaefli and Jaap van Zweden. During the 2024–2025 season, he completed an internship at the Grand Théâtre de Genève for the production of Salome (R. Strauss) with Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
He has collaborated with a wide range of orchestras and ensembles, including the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, Divertimento Ensemble, Orchestra Sinfonica del Lario, AIDO Ensemble, Berlin Sinfonietta, Allegra Festival Orchestra, ZHdK PreCollege Orchestra, Orchestre Universitaire de Genève, Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana Symphony Orchestra, Accademia della Terra d'Arneo.
Giovanni is artistic director and founder of the "Vitae Aeternae - Festival d’arte" in his homeland, a multidisciplinary cultural event dedicated to promoting the work of both local and international artists.
He began his conducting studies with Marc Kissoczy, Francesco Bossaglia, and Arturo Tamayo at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. He has also trained with Nicolas Pasquet, Ekhart Wycik, Colin Metters, Donato Renzetti, Heinz Holliger, Matteo Beltrami, and Christoph König.
In the summer of 2022, he was assistant conductor at the Saluzzo Opera Academy for productions of L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi and Don Giovanni by Mozart, collaborating with Kevin Class, Noa Naamat and Susan Stone. His passion for opera led him to follow M°Carmen Santoro in her work as a vocal coach, deepening all aspects related to the tradition of Italian “bel canto”.
In the same year, Giovanni was selected to participate in the 18th Conducting Course promoted by Divertimento Ensemble, allowing him to deepen his expertise in contemporary repertoire with Sandro Gorli and Stefano Gervasoni.
Raised in Porto Cesareo, Italy, he speaks Italian, English, Spanish, and French. Before fully dedicating himself to conducting, he studied accordion with Germano Scurti at the Conservatory of music “Tito Schipa” in Lecce, and composition with Nadir Vassena at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana.
Winner of the 1st Prize at the 41st International Accordion Award, City of Castelfidardo (2016) with the accordion trio Lecce Accordion Project (Bianco-Fanizza-Coluccia); 2nd Prize at the “70th World Accordion Cup” (2017, Osimo); 2nd Prize at the “12th National Arts Award” (2017, Ravenna). In 2019 he published with the trio literature specific for Bayan with pieces by . Tiensuu, A. Kusiakov, V. Zolotarev, B. Precz, A. Schnittke, e V. Zubitsky. Giovanni edited the transcription of part of “Gogole Suite” by A.Schnittke for the trio.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Orchestral Conducting at the Haute école de musique de Genève with Prof. Laurent Gay.
